ACCPAC Finder Customization

Did you know that you can choose different columns inside the ACCPAC Finder to any or all fields found in that form?

The Finder is a tool for looking up records using the key fields in ACCPAC records. When you click the Finder button, a dialog box appears that displays the records you can choose from. Note that the Finder displays only the records that match the criteria set for that Finder.

The Finder also lets you search for records by specifying selection criteria (matching records based on the contents of particular fields), and, in some cases, lets you vary the order in which records are displayed.

The Finder respects a user's security rights. If the user does not have rights to view certain information, that information will not be displayed.

In the Finder, you can:

  • Specify the field you want to use to search for the record.
  • Specify which part of the record name or number you can identify. You can search by specifying the beginning of a code or description (Starts With), or you can specify letters or numbers in the middle of the code or name (Contains).
  • Select a record for use.
  • Set criteria (restrictions) for displaying records or remove criteria set previously.
  • Select or change the color of the text or background in a Finder result field.
  • The Columns option in the Settings menu of a Finder lets you display any or all fields found in the form. There is a default selection or you can choose from a list.
  • View the field as it will appear in a Crystal report. If you are creating customized reports, use the "Field Name as Column Heading" option. This changes column headings to internal field names.

Data Entry Column Customization

Changing Column Order in Data Entry Forms

You can permanently or temporarily change the order in which columns appear on many ACCPAC forms.

For example, you can change the order of the Payment Entry detail columns to match the field order of a document from which you are entering data.

To move a column:

  1. Point at the column heading.

  2. Hold down the left mouse button

  3. Move the column to its new location

  4. Release the button.

To restore your original settings:

From the ACCPAC Desktop menu bar, select the icon for the form you changed, then click Object, Restore Defaults, then All Other Settings.

The columns will be in the original order the next time you open the form.
